ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 16.13 g, 11 h), Eumelos and Theoxenides, magistrates, 75/4. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet adorned with Pegasos and long tendril on the bowl, and with the foreparts of four horses above the visor. Rev. A-ΘE / EYMH-ΛΟΣ / ΘΕΟ/ΞENI/ΔΗΣ Owl standing facing on amphora; to right, Ares (?) standing facing, hol55ding spear in his right hand and placing his left on his hip; on amphora, A; in exergue, ΔΙ; all within laurel wreath. Thompson 1196a var. (no letters in the exergue). A beautiful piece with a splendid head of Athena. Traces of cleaning, otherwise, extremely fine.
